Grishneshwar Temple is the 12th and final Jyotirlinga among the twelve sacred shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is located just 1.5 km from the Ellora Caves, making it a popular spiritual stop for pilgrims and tourists alike.
Architecture: Built in the Hemadpanthi style, the temple features red basalt stone, intricate carvings, and a five-tiered shikhara (spire).
History: The temple has been destroyed and rebuilt multiple times. It was last restored in 1729 CE by Queen Ahilyabai Holkar of Indore.
Mythology: The temple is associated with the legend of Ghushma, a devoted woman whose faith in Shiva led to the manifestation of this Jyotirlinga.
Darshan: Open to all, but men must enter the sanctum sanctorum bare-chested, as per local tradition.
